A guided retreat is a personal silent retreat spent in prayer, reading and meditation with the assistance of a Spiritual Director. The Spiritual Director will meet with you (usually once each day) to provide some suggestions for your prayer and meditation. The Director also provides a listening ear, someone with whom you can share your experiences. The Director’s role is that of a spiritual companion who listens to you, asks questions, and offers suggestions that help you hear and respond to what the Spirit is speaking to your own heart. A guided retreat can be especially helpful to someone who is making a personal silent retreat for the first time.
We have two on-site spiritual directors available to assist guests at Vision of Peace.
A retired priest, Msgr. Ed Griesedieck, is acting as our Chaplain most days and available for Spiritual Direction and the Sacrament of Reconciliation upon request. Email email@example.com for his availability.
We also have our director, Angela Smith who has over 20 years experience in retreat work in the Catholic church and also a deep love of ecumenism. Her schedule is more limited with availability. She worked in a public library for about 20 years building relationships with people from all aspects of life and faiths. For the past 5 years, she has worked very closely encouraging and mentoring young adults between the ages of 25-35. Her spiritual direction training, received from the Alleluia School of Spiritual Direction in Augusta, Georgia, has helped her learn to listen to the spirit and walk alongside those she directs.
The cost for a guided retreat includes the cost for your room plus an offering to the Spiritual Director. The cost for the room is $50 per night. Our weekly rate (7 days, 6 nights) is $250. An expected donation for Spiritual Direction may be $20-$40 per session.
Our guests are responsible for furnishing their own food during their visit. To assist you in this, each hermitage is fully equipped with a small kitchen, including a refrigerator, coffee maker, hot plate, microwave, toaster, crock-pot, cooking utensils, and all necessary plates, bowls, cups, and flatware. See Frequently Asked Questions for further details.
